In filmul Altamira, Marcelina Sanz de Sautoula y de la Pedrueca descopera accidental in anul 1868 picturi Paleolitice cu ajutorul unui vanator pe nume Modesto Cubillas inauntru pesterei Altamira, localizata in Cantabria, sudul Spaniei. Incercand sa arate descoperirea lor lumii academice pentru ca ei sa studiezi picturile, Sautuola se prabuseste impotriva scepticismelor si discreditarilor expertilor, care aclama ca ce este in pestera este fals si picturile facute de Sautuola, in scopul de a deveni bogat. Cautand adevarul, Sautuola petrece restul vieti luptand sa demonstreze ca picturile erau reale si incearca sa isi demonstreze innocenta fata de acuzatiile facute.
